Who are THAT?
We are Teignbridge Homeless Action Today (THAT Food Bank), a non-profit organisation based in Buckland which is actively working to alleviate poverty in our community.
We aim to assist those struggling financially and the homeless by supplying them with essential items such as food, toiletries. We also provide home start packs, fuel key top ups and offer information and a place to chat.
As well as helping members of the community with issues that need immediate attention, we also strive to ensure that those using our services have fewer problems in the future by working together to address the underlying issues that are causing the problem and taking steps to minimise them.
WE HAVE BEEN AWARDED THE QUALITY ASSURANCE MARK.
HELP FROM LOCAL STORES
We couldn't do our vital work without the help and support of local stores. We collect non-perishable food donated at Tesco's, ASDA, Ley Lane Convenience store, Abbotskerswell Village Store and Blackpool School. We also receive fresh short dated food from Tesco's, Aldi and Co-op, and hold collection days at ASDA and Tesco's. Special thanks to Tesco's community champion - Janette.
THAT foodbank offer support and provide food and essential items to anyone in the Teignbridge area who is in financial difficulties or homeless. You can drop in or contact us by phone or email (see "Get help for details or click link below).
Why is THAT important?
Poverty isn't a problem which only affects developing countries. Did you know that 1 in 5 people in the UK are living below the poverty line? There are 2.3 million children living in poverty in this country and 63% of these are in a family in which someone works.
According to surveys, Teignbridge is the most deprived area in Devon and Buckland and Milber are "in the most deprived 10% of all areas in the country".
This is why charities like THAT are so important to our community. We aim to provide individuals and families living in poor conditions with much-needed support whilst working to eradicate deprivation and poverty.
We would be grateful to receive donations of money and food as well as things like cooking and kitchen utensils, bedding, towels, etc, pet food and baby food.
Currently we are in particular need of sugar, coffee, tea, oats and rice.
See our DONATE page for more detail.
